"Where We Never Grow Old" by Nancy Chancey (Blues Artist from Georgia(GA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Nancy Chancey with a GrIndie Award for the CD"Where We Never Grow Old"

"Where We Never Grow Old" by Nancy Chancey is an impressive country rock album with elements of blues, folk, and Americana from a powerful and talented singer. Nancy's voice booms confidently through the bluesy guitars and big beats. Her strong vocals are similar to Sheryl Crow, Jewel, or Bonnie Raitt. She also shows you a world of depth in her songwriting ability. Though the album is mostly upbeat, she'll make you feel pain, empowerment, and joy alike throughout this musical journey. The arrangements and musicianship are very good, complementing Nancy's strong vocals very nicely. The recordings are nice and crisp with simple production, allowing the instruments and vocals to nicely cut through in the recording. Highlights include the opener "One Day at a Time," setting the table nicely with a catchy chorus and a great little blues riff. The title track, "Where We Never Grow Old," features a delicate flute intro, a noble guitar progression, and intimate vocals. "No Good Lovin" has another hot blues lick and a great vocal performance. If you enjoy female country vocalists nicely complimented with rock, folk, and the blues, take a listen to this excellent CD by Nancy Chancey.-William

"I Can't Live Like This" by Glenn Gordon (Blues Artist from Georgia(GA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Glenn Gordon with a GrIndie Award for the CD "I Can't Live Like This"

"I Can't Live Like This" is the debut single from Contemporary Jazz singer Glenn Gordon. The song is a snapshot of many different influences. The song features a nice mix of classic and modern Jazz styles, plus quite a bit of R&B flavor. Glenn's voice has some of the qualities of the great Soul singers and his delivery is passionate. The mood is very upbeat, as the song glides its way into your ears. It's one of those songs that brings a smile to your face within the first bar and you can't wipe it off until the last bar. Everything about this song is clear. The arrangement is fantastic. All of the instruments are very complementary to one another and the performances are great. The production quality is also very good - a very crisp recording and great final product. If you enjoy Teddy Pendergrass and Marvin Gaye, you'll enjoy this song.-William

"Nostalgia" by Darin Seldes (Rock Artist from Atlanta, Georgia(GA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Darin Seldes with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Nostalgia"

"Nostalgia" is a rock album with elements of jazz, funk, zydeco, and reggae from the innovative Darin Seldes. On "Nostalgia" Seldes combines atypical rock instruments – Spanish guitar, organ, horns, mandolin, and piano – with typical instruments to create an original sound. His vocals are also quite unique, accentuated and raspy with an impressive range, comparable to Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini. The clarity and quality of the production of the album allows the outstanding individual instrumental work to cut through the recording clearly and precisely. The lyrics on "Nostalgia" are oftentimes catchy and playful, though the album as a whole recognizes the difficulties of living in this imperfect world. "Long Awaited Ditty" features a playful and catchy bridge, "This is the section of the song for those who like to sing along." "Crawfish and Boiled Shrimp" is similarly playful as Seldes sings about eating seafood and attending outdoor festivities. Lyrically, "Lonely Incorporated," as one might suspect, is not quite as playful, but the instrumental combination of piano, Spanish guitar, drums, and an electric solo is quite the jam. "Nostalgia" is a true original for fans of a jazzy, funky or reggae-infused rock sound. If you enjoy rock or any of these combined genres, you'll enjoy this excellent CD.-Lea and the RadioIndy Reviewer Team

"Out of Mississippi' by Joni Compretta (Country Artist from Mississippi(MS))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Joni Compretta with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Out of Mississippi"

"Out of Mississippi" is a southern country album from female vocalist Joni Compretta. Joni has a strong, demanding voice similar to contemporary country artists like Martina McBride and Faith Hill that is capable of expressing loneliness and joy, hopefulness and helplessness. Most of the songs on "Out of Mississippi" are borrowed from other artists, many of whom are not from Mississippi, but they all tell a decent story and Joni's confident vocals make it seem like she wrote them herself. Her backing band is versatile and musically sound, drawing from the classic rock & roll sound as well as country, and incorporating the piano, mandolin, violin, and steel guitar into a number of songs. The album is well-recorded with no critical errors. "Before You Turn to a Memory" show's Compretta's backing band's musical talent with a sad violin intro, mandolin, steel guitar, and piano all complimenting her powerfully sad vocal. "I Love You," a track that originated on a Faith Hill album, has a nice alternation between smooth jazz saxophone and steel guitar during the melodic verse. With "Out of Mississippi," Joni Compretta has selected some of her favorite songs, borrowed them, and cut them herself in her own stylish way. Fans of strong female vocals and southern country, check this one out.-Lea and the RadioIndy Reviewer Team

"The Hurricane Waltz" by Guy Lee (Rock Artist from Tennessee(TN))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Guy Lee with a GrIndie Award for the CD "The Hurricane Waltz"

"The Hurricane Waltz" is an impressive instrumental guitar album featuring the Southern and modern style of the talented Guy Lee. The guitar work is amazing on this album - riffs and solos galore. You can't ignore the great rhythm section behind Guy though. The band is tight and the backing arrangements are very active. Having those guys behind him gives Guy the ability to cut loose, and he delivers. It isn't all power though. There are some great melodic downbeat numbers as well as a variation in guitar styles. You get a full menu with Guy and quality-wise, the album sounds great. Highlights are the opener "Sirocco" with a great mix of Southern and modern guitar styles. The band is at its best too, with tight rhythms and fills. "Flash Cash" is a quirky little Rag with one of Guy's best performances, some cool fiddle and offbeat changes. The title track "The Hurricane Waltz" wraps things up and features wicked jazz lines and an "authentic to the era" sound quality. If you enjoy listening to the talents of guitar virtuosos, you'll enjoy the outstanding guitar work and overall musicianship of this excellent and creative CD.-William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team

"My Life" by Erly Thornton (Jazz Artist from Florida(FL))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Erly Thornton with a GrIndie Award for the CD "My Life"

"My Life" is a contemporary jazz/soul album that features the outstanding saxophone work of Erly Thornton. The sound is one that is difficult to put a label on. There are great elements present from many different genres, although smooth jazz is probably the most predominant. The musicianship is superior on this album and the arrangements are unique and intelligent. There is a constant upbeat, yet smooth vibe to all of the songs. All of the instruments are well represented, meaning you can hear everything. The relationship of the layers is well produced. This album will relax you and get your heart pumping at the same time. Highlights include "JJ's Bounce," which takes you off the map a little bit with urban beats and a funky groove. "Fantasy" speaks for itself in the title and features one of the best sax performances on the album. "Grooveelatious" is another self-explanatory track. There is more than groove to this one though, as it takes you on an airy journey. If you enjoy contemporary/smooth jazz saxophone, you'll love this CD and this talented saxophonist.-William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team

"4th St. by Booze Monkey (Rock Artist from Virginia(VA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Booze Monkey with a GrIndie Award for the CD "4th St."

"4th St." by Booze Monkey is a guitar-driven blues rock album with a sense of humor and a party mentality. The lyrics are quirky, creative and entertaining to say the least. Not only that, these guys are good musicians that can play the blues. The man behind the sound is seasoned independent recording artist Blue Ajay. There is a definite rockabilly undertone to the sound. That mixed with the chunky/chewey guitar makes for a driving and powerful rock n' roll cocktail. You will also experience a very well-produced album with modern sounds and eclectic intricacies. This ain't your mom and pop's blues. Highlights include "Solitare (the old way)" with it's lyrical roller coaster and booming rockabilly sound. A definite party starter. "Hope" is the track that follows and is a complete 360. A darkness emerges with synths, haunting guitar work and goth-ish vocals. "Tellin' You" is a twisted rocker with great changes and fantastic performances all around. If you enjoy blues rock, you'll enjoy this excellent CD.-William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
